Residents and visitors can now relax, sit back and enjoy the destination play park, beautiful green spaces and River Severn in Newtown thanks to the installation of a series of picnic benches.
The benches, made from 100% recycled plastic bale wrap, have been provided by Open Newtown, with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund Wales, and installed by Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council staff.

A bench and two picnic benches, including one specifically designed for wheelchair and buggy access, have been installed at the play park, located adjacent to Back Lane car park.
The popular play park, a partnership project delivered by the town council and Open Newtown, was funded by the council and National Lottery Community Fund Wales.
Another new riverside picnic bench is being installed nearby where steps have been installed to provide access to the River Severn. Two others can be found in green spaces at the Vaynor housing estate, near to a section of community orchard.
Open Newtown director Gary Mitchell said: “We hope that the new picnic benches will help local residents and visitors alike enjoy the destination play park, the river and wonderful green spaces that we have here in Newtown.
“At the heart of everything Open Newtown does is a desire to make the town’s green spaces more attractive and accessible.”
Open Newtown is a community owned development trust and social enterprise that manages 140 acres of green space and delivers sustainable community projects with the aim of making the town a viable and vibrant place to live, work and visit.
The organisation’s mission is to unlock the economic potential of green spaces and the River Severn in Newtown to create opportunities for sports, recreation, events, wellbeing, tourism and the local economy and community.
