The health and wellbeing benefits of cold water swimming are attracting up to 70 people a day to the multi-award winning Love2Stay resort in Shrewsbury.
The resort, owned by Salop Leisure, has Europe’s largest commercial Biotop natural outdoor swimming pool which is proving increasingly popular with swimmers.

Coldwater swimming workshops in April and May sold out quickly, but others are in the pipeline. Swimmers are travelling from as far away as Worcestershire and Cheshire to use the chemical-free, natural bio swimming pool.
Swimmers can enjoy an outdoor swim followed by a hot drink and a relaxing dip in a hot tubs next to the 15 x 6 metre pool which is 1.4 metres deep.
Love2Stay is currently running a Cold Water Swimming Challenge Adventure over three months, with swimmers challenged to swim 10,000 metres for a gold medal, 5,000 metres for silver or 2,500 metres for bronze in the bio pool.
To provide evidence of their swims and track progress, swimmers will be sent a link to a form where they can input their distance and attach a screenshot of their Strava/Garmin/sports watch record, if used.
Upon sign up, each swimmer will receive 10% off their Love2Stay Coffee Shop bill and 10% off physiotherapy appointments. At the end of the challenge, each successful swimmer will be awarded a medal and certificate to celebrate their achievement!
To register for the challenge, swimmers are asked to visit 5th July 2021 on Love2Stay’s ticketing system.
Cold water swimming is claimed to increase tolerance to stress, improve mental health, boost self-esteem, decrease inflammation, increase immunity, assist mindfulness and leave swimmers with radiant skin.
Love2Stay’s general manager Chris Skitt is a big fan of cold water swimming, which he began after reading about the benefits extolled by Dutchman Wim Hof, known as the Iceman.
“Cold water swimming was initially meant to be a trial to see how I felt during and after,” he said. “I feel more enthusiastic, my mindset is a lot better and I’m a lot more alert.
“Wim Hof gives you methods of controlling your breathing to zone out of shocks to the system from cold water. Now, when I get in the pool, the coldness initially takes my breath away but, once I get into my breathing routine, it’s easy.
“It’s nice to overcome a challenge, but there are correlations that you can take into your work and I think cold water swimming could ultimately increase productivity in a business.
“We have a facility here at Love2Stay that is so magical and charming that I want more outdoor swimmers to come and try the cold water immersion. Hopefully, they will feel the same benefits that I have.”
An ethos of Love2Stay is to improve the health and wellbeing of customers visiting the resort, which has two luxury glamping lodge villages and a 122-pitch touring caravan and motorhome park.
The resort also has an adventure centre and offers a wide range of activities, including yoga, Pilates, physiotherapy and mindfulness classes, as well as the Love2Live fitness and wellbeing gym.
