Two noted Cheshire dairy herds are being sold by Halls auctioneers at Shrewsbury Auction Centre over the next couple of weeks.
The dispersal sales begin with Messrs H. Davies and Partners’ herd from Manor House Farm, Puddington, near Neston on Tuesday, March 25, following the dairy show and sale.
Then, on Tuesday, April 8, Lomas Farming Company of Tarvin, will be selling the milking portion of its Beestonview Herd, comprising 160 cattle, following the weekly dairy sale.
Manor House Farm herd comprises a 100 Brown Swiss and Fleckveih cross cows, mostly in calf to sexed British Blue bulls.
Jonny Dymond, Shrewsbury Auction Centre manager and senior auctioneer, describes the cattle as “tremendously milky”. The milk produced has a 4.2% and 3.7% butterfat and protein content, respectively and a cell count of just 79 across the herd.
“Messrs H. Davies and Partners have been weekly vendors in Shrewsbury for some time and we will miss them,” added Mr Dymond. “This uniquely bred herd is based on the Brown Swiss cow and includes second and third calf Fleckveih crosses.”
The Beestonview Herd, comprising 130 pedigree Holsteins and 30 purebred Jerseys, produces as average of 8,800 kilograms of milk with 4.6% butterfat, 3.53 protein and a cell count of 182, with all year around calving pattern.
“These cows have been bred with love and dedication and I can’t recommend them highly enough,” said Mr Dymond. “After 41 years spent in active dairy farming, David and Jo Lomas are looking to take a back seat in the business for their son, Michael, to continue.
“The milking portion of the herd is being sold on April 8 and the family will sell the remaining heifers and young stock over the coming months.”
Catalogues for both dispersal auctions can be request from Shrewsbury Auction Centre on Tel: 01743 462620.
